DeGette wins CD-1 Democratic assembly; hints at potential switch to Obama

U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Denver) won Saturday's CD-1 Democratic assembly unopposed, and suggested her superdelegate vote may go to Barack Obama following the last Democratic presidential primary, ColoradoPols is reporting.

DeGette, who as a sitting Democratic member of Congress is a presidential superdelegate, pledged her support to Hillary Clinton last November. But in her CD-2 Democratic assembly acceptance speech Saturday, ColoradoPols reported that DeGette "said that she would not join in any super delegate cabal to overturn the will of the people as expressed by the popular and pledged delegate count."

Fitz-Gerald wins CD-2 Democratic assembly; Polis improves to 40 percent

CD-2 Democratic candidate Joan Fitz-Gerald captured the top ballot spot on the August primary ballot Saturday, winning the CD-2 assembly vote 60 percent to 40 percent over rival Jared Polis.

Polis' showing on Saturday was a slight improvement over his showing in the CD-2 county assemblies, in which he won 37 percent of the total delegates.

"Personhood" amendment supporters to submit signatures next week

Supporters of a proposed state constitutional amendment that would define the definition of "personhood " to include a human embryo say they plan to present the Colorado Secretary of State's office next week with "well over" the required number signatures needed to put the issue on the fall ballot.

Colorado for Equal Rights, the group sponsoring the pro-life measure, will hold a press conference at a Knights of Columbus hall in downtown Denver early Tuesday afternoon about the proposed referendum; volunteers will then march the petition signatures to the Secretary of State's office, a press release stated.

Bidlack opens campaign office, hopes to make CD-5 history

Hal Bidlack opened his congressional campaign office in Colorado Springs on Thursday, telling supporters he plans to be the first Democrat ever elected in the heavily conservative 5th Congressional District.

"With a lot of hard work, with a lot of hours and asking a lot of people for help financially, helping in the office, we can actually really startle this country, and end the 30-year pattern of never electing a Democrat in CD-5," Bidlack said outside his office, a house south of downtown Colorado Springs. "I think that I may be that guy."

DSCC trumpets Mariana Islands legislation

The DSCC took another swipe at US Senate candidate Bob Schaffer today on the Mariana Islands controversy. In a press release issued today DSCC spokeman Matthew Miller rips Schaffer for allowing "human rights abuses to continue," while the Schaffer campaign manager, Dick Wadhams accused Schaffer opponent, Mark Udall, of being a hypocrite on the Mariana controversy.

El Paso County GOP piqued by Lamborn's charges of mismanagement

While nobody from the El Paso County Republican Party wanted to say it on the record, they have a problem with U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colorado Springs).

In an interview with PolitickerCO.com published Monday, Lamborn accused the El Paso Republicans of mismanaging the distribution of CD-5 assembly delegate information, making his road to re-election much more difficult.

Indignant party officials called Lamborn’s charges "patently incorrect" and a “straw argument” for his dropping out of the assembly process.
