NRCC's Cole to campaign for Coffman

WASHINGTON – National Republican Congressional Committee chair Tom Cole is set to launch a three-week national tour of house races, including a stop in Colorado.

While the schedule is still tentative, according to an NRCC source familiar with the plans, the trip will bring Cole to Colorado’s 6th Congressional district, where Republican Mike Coffman is running against Democrat Hank Eng. The trip is scheduled for Oct. 20.

Cole, a third term congressman from Oklahoma who is in his first stint as the GOP House campaign chief, is a top fundraising draw for House candidates across the country.

He will also be making stops for Republicans Bill Posey and Tom Rooney in Florida, Steve Scalise and Bill Cassidy in Lousiana, Cynthia Lummis in Wyoming, Dean Andal and Tom McClintock in California, Lynn Jenkins and Nick Jordan in Kansas, Martin Ozinga in Illinois, Kirk Schuring in Ohio, Andy Harris in Maryland, and Keith Fimian in Virginia.

Hank Eng

I am so tired of seeing in the media that Democrat Hank Eng won't win the Colorado US House District 6 race, that Republican Mike Coffman, Secretary of State, is a shoe-in. It's amazing to me that Coffman gets mentioned continually because of all the possible scandals with his current office, but his running for the US Congress isn't even an asterisk. And Hank Eng gets no mention at all, despite signs of growing support including registered Republicans donating and putting up yard signs. Does anyone even question that Coffman will be the final certifier on his own election? If you don't think this matters, remember Katherine Harris of Florida in 2000.

Cole is probably positioning

Cole is probably positioning for a leadership post and is making the rounds to incoming Members in an attempt to earn their support.

That's choice

It means one of two things that he would campaign in the very safe Republican 6th:

1. He's actually worried that Hank Eng will win (not likely) or

2. They have given up competing elsewhere and are just throwing red meat to the base by making a token appearance.

What other reasons would there be for Cole to waste time in a safe Republican district?
