Former U.S. Rep. Joel Hefley: Getty ImagesJeff Crank, Republican candidate for Congress in Colorado's 5th Congressional District, today announced the endorsement of former Congressman Joel Hefley.

"The Republican Party has lost its way," Hefley said in the statement. "It's crucial we get our own Republican Party's house in order, on ethics and spending, by electing principled leaders. Congressional Republicans have too often put politics before principle and winning before ethics...I know it can be difficult to stand up for what's right when colleagues make bad decisions. Jeff and I did just that for eight years. I know Jeff can make a difference in restoring and renewing our party in Congress. That's why I am endorsing him."

Scott Shires, a GOP activist and resident of Aurora, appeared in U.S. District Court earlier today and has been sentenced to a year's probation and fined $3,450, the Rocky Mountain News is reporting.

The case is drawing attention due to Shires' close connections with Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer. Shires, known as an activist for the Republican Party, has worked to get Republicans elected to the legislature for years and ran for the state house himself in 2000. In 2004 he volunteered on Schaffer's senate campaign, and in 2006 was hired by Schaffer's state Board of Education to handle campaign finance filings.

Hal Bidlack, a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel of El Paso County, has announced that he will be vying for Doug Lamborn's 5th Congressional District seat.

Rollie Heath, candidate for the Colorado Senate District 18, announced that his fundraising topped $45,000 three months into his campaign. Heath also has addressed his top priorities and campaign commitments to voters in an open letter posted on his web site.  read more »
