Bruce to colleagues: I’m not an ogre, but I'd like to have you for lunch!

Embattled and often-criticized El Paso County legislator Doug Bruce has circulated a blanket dinning invitation to his fellow legislators. Our guess is that it's in an effort to stave off getting kicked out of the legislature.

Our statewide network of political ferrets has forwarded to us one or two copies.

It goes something like this:

Dear Colleague,

Please allow me to break bread with you at some convenient time and place this session. Despite likely policy differences, I hope we can establish a degree of personal trust and respect that will facilitate our mutual efforts to serve the public.Like the premature reports of Mark Twain’s demise, my media reputation as an ogre is “greatly exaggerated.” You may suggest any café or restaurant near the Capitol-my treat. Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, if you dare to be seen out in public with me, I promise to leave my horns and pitchfork in my office.Please let me know your suggested date and time. Thanks.

The Inside Edge wants to caution any recipients of this invitation: Ogres are very smart folk (witness the great commercial success of the Shrek series). This might be some ogre trick to roast you and eat you. First off, the ogre offered to pay. The Doug Bruce we know would never pay for something he wasn’t constitutionally required to pay for.

Secondly, the ogre offered to establish personal trust and respect.  

Doug?

Bruce?

Naw.  

We’ve all read the fairy tales. People who accept invitations from ogres generally end up in some kind of stew pot.

If you do accept this invitation, please, for the love of country, leave a trail of bread crumbs.

This is an obvious attempt to curry flavor you or curry favor with you.   

You’ve been warned.

Note-

This warning does not does not apply to State Senator Ted Harvey. No one would want eat him any way. Not even an ogre like Doug Bruce.
