Carroll Announces Senate Bid; Ad Consultant Wants Carroll's House Seat

State Rep. Morgan Carroll (D-Aurora) publicly announced Monday morning that she will take over for ousted state Rep. Michael Garcia (D-Aurora) as the Democratic candidate in Senate District 29, the Rocky Mountain News reported.

Advertising/PR consultant Su Ryden announced she will vie for Carroll's 36th District House seat, the Rocky reported.

Arapahoe County Chair Mike Hamrick told PolitickerCO Monday morning that he hadn't heard of any other candidates indicate interest in Carroll's seat.

Hamrick also said he doesn't anticipate any more candidates will enter the race to fill's Garcia's vacated 42nd District House seat.

Two candidates, State Board of Education member Karen Middleton and Carlos Estrada, who ran a primary campaign against Garcia in 2006, are vying for the 42nd District seat.

Hamrick said since Middleton had already been running to succeed Garcia in the November elections, "I assume she's going to be the favorite."

"But that's not up to me," he added, referring to the 35-member vacancy committee which will meet Feb. 10.
