ALLARD COMMENDS PROGRESS ON FILLING JUDICIAL VACANCIES

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) said today that substantial progress has been made in filling the three current vacancies on Colorado’s Federal District Court. Allard was informed this morning by fellow Colorado Senator Ken Salazar that he will be forwarding a letter today to the White House recommending three names to fill the vacancies. The letter includes two names recommended previously by Allard to the White House, in addition to a new name.

“This morning Senator Salazar informed me that he will be sending a letter today to the President supporting two of the names I have previously submitted to the White House,” said Allard. “In supporting Greg Goldberg and Christine Arguello for the judicial vacancies, Senator Salazar has confirmed the resounding endorsements I so clearly heard from members of the Colorado judicial community regarding their qualifications to serve in these important roles.”

Allard was also informed by Salazar that he will be submitting an additional name for consideration to the White House. Allard will now begin working with the White House to select the three names the President will nominate for the current vacancies of the Colorado District Court bench.

“As I have said from the beginning of this process, it is my desire that the President nominate three qualified individuals as quickly as possible so that the Senate can expeditiously confirm them and we can avoid further backlogs in our Colorado court system,” added Allard.
Allard announced January 30, 2008 that he had submitted the following individuals to the White House for consideration:
- Christine Arguello – Former Chief Deputy Attorney General, Colorado
- Philip Brimmer – Special Prosecutions Section Chief, U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Colorado
- Gregory Goldberg – Former Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Colorado
- Michael Hegarty – U.S. Magistrate Judge for U.S. District Court, District of Colorado
- James Hartmann – Judge, 19th District of Colorado
- William Leone – Former U.S. Attorney, District of Colorado
- Mary Jo Menendez – Judge, 1st District of Colorado
