Our Douglas County sources are telling us that there has been some tentative talk from former Republican Senator John Evans about a run for the governor’s mansion in 2010.
That would bring to 3 the number of names from Douglas County that has circulated in regards to the Governor’s race in 2010.
Current GOP state Senator Tom Wiens has been toying with the idea of running for governor since he first ran for state house in 2002. Although Wiens talks about running for a lot of offices and rarely pulls the trigger, he’s serious, say our sources, about the Governor’s race in 2010.
Weighing in as the third member from Douglas County looking at the Governor’s race would be current state Senator Ted Harvey. Harvey has been overheard extolling his own virtues as a Governor’s candidate.
It’s an interesting dynamic to watch with Harvey’s the odd-man out. Neither Wiens nor Evans care much for Senator Harvey. However, Wiens and Evans are considered political allies and are even friendly towards each other, our sources say.
In the coming months, look for Evans and Wiens to try to raise their public profile through issue advocacy.
