Jared Polis Statement on Bruce Benson's Nomination as CU President

"The Regents face an important decision today that affects the future of the University of Colorado.

"I will never throw CU, its students, faculty, and community under the bus because the actions of the Regents aren't personally to my liking, nor take a position during a political campaign that might poison the well for future relationships, funding, policy initiatives, and other issues important to the CU Community. Whether the next President of CU is Bruce Benson or someone else, it is critical that the next congressperson representing Boulder, the site of CU's flagship campus, has a solid relationship with the University
of Colorado and its leadership.

"In my opinion, putting forth a single finalist for the position if neither fair nor the most effective way to find the best candidate. Although I hope that the next person to hold this post is a qualified progressive and represents the philosophies of the University of Colorado and the academic community, I look forward to working with that person to continue leading CU down the path of being one of the
leading universities in the nation.

"I am proud to be supported by Regent Mike Carrigan and Regent Steve Ludwig who have formed the cornerstone of opposition to the Benson nomination, and I wish them well in their efforts.

"I look forward to working collaboratively with whomever the elected Regents choose as the next President of CU."
