U.S. Rep. Diana DeGetteU.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Denver) won Saturday's CD-1 Democratic assembly unopposed, and suggested her superdelegate vote may go to Barack Obama following the last Democratic presidential primary, ColoradoPols is reporting.
DeGette, who as a sitting Democratic member of Congress is a presidential superdelegate, pledged her support to Hillary Clinton last November. But in her CD-2 Democratic assembly acceptance speech Saturday, ColoradoPols reported that DeGette "said that she would not join in any super delegate cabal to overturn the will of the people as expressed by the popular and pledged delegate count."
Obama is expected to beat Clinton in pledged delegates when the 2008 primary season ends following Puerto Rico's primary on June 7. Obama currently leads Clinton in pledged delegates 1,585 to 1,421 and among superdelegates 271 to 268.5.
Right now, Clinton and Obama each have four pledged superdelegates from Colorado; the remaining six Colorado superdelegates, including Gov. Bill Ritter, U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Denver), and U.S. Rep. Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs), have not yet committed to a candidate.
