Is Mark Udall a "Boulder liberal," as Republicans have dubbed him? Or should the location in that GOP moniker be changed to read "Eldorado Springs"?
Udall, a U.S. Representative and the presumptive Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, is regularly listed in the press as being from Eldorado Springs. That is what his congressional and campaign offices say, too.
Udall's home, however, is in unincorporated Boulder, about halfway between Eldorado Springs and the city of Boulder.
The Udalls purchased the home, about a mile and a half outside Eldorado Springs, in 2003; before that, they lived in the city of Boulder, said Udall campaign spokesperson Taylor West.
West said Udall's mailing address lists him in Boulder.
"But if you look at it on the map, it's pretty blatantly not in Boulder - it's Eldorado Springs," West said. "This is a Schaffer campaign attempt to distract what are extremely serious issues that people in Colorado are facing. If this is how they plan to run their campaign, that's fine. But we're going to spend time addressing issues that people in Colorado care about."
Schaffer manager Dick Wadhams told CongressDaily last week that Udall's maneuvering on the topic "shows how nervous he is because he's going to great lengths to disassociate himself from Boulder. He's making our points for us."
Wadhams did not immediately return an e-mail Tuesday seeking further comment.

Though he proudly introduced this resolution, it seems to have disappeared from his list of accomplishments.
He's so desperate
He's desperate because he doesn't want to end up being associated with BothWays Bob who also lives in Boulder.
I call BS
As I have stated in other times and places... El Dorado Springs in Boulder County is equivalent to Security or Gleneagle in El Paso County... meaning both of those cities are about 12-15 minutes away from downtown Colorado Springs... just like "El Dorado" is about the same distance from downtown Boulder.
Why is Udall so desperate to distance himself from Boulder anyway?
Take a geography lesson
First, it's not "unincorporated Boulder," it's unincorporated Boulder County. You know, the county in which the city of Boulder is located, occupying about 3.4% of the land area.
Second, point A on the map is not "about halfway between Eldorado Springs and the city of Boulder." It is (possibly) about half way between the city limits of Boulder and Eldorado Springs. Eugene, Oregon is about halfway between Washington and California, but I doubt anybody in LA would consider a day trip there by car.
Third, who the hell cares? Bob Beauprez and Jon Caldara live in Boulder County. Caldara lives in the City of Boulder. Does that automatically make them Boulder Liberals?
