Sixth Congressional District Republican candidate Wil Armstrong turned in more than 6,000 petition signatures Tuesday afternoon.
That's a record number of signatures for a Colorado congressional primary, the campaign said, and it's six times what's required under state law.
Armstrong manager Jack Stansbery said according to information provided to him by the Colorado Secretary of State's office, the previous signature-gathering record was held by by 7th Congressional District Democratic candidate Peggy Lamm in 2006.
Lamm submitted 3,384 signatures in that contest, though only 1,988 ended up being declared valid.
The Armstrong campaign trumpeted that more than 250 volunteers were involved in the petition-gathering process; Tuesday afternoon, Armstrong and about a dozen campaign workers hauled 10 boxes of petitions into the Secretary of State's office in downtown Denver.
Stansbery said between 1,000-1,500 of the signatures collected were from paid petition gatherers.
Last week, CO-6 GOP candidate Mike Coffman turned in more than 3,500 signatures. Coffman's campaign also had paid petition collectors.
The other two CO-6 GOP candidates, state Sens. Ted Harvey (R-Highlands Ranch) and Steve Ward (R-Littleton), made the August primary ballot earlier this month through the Sixth Congressional District Republican Assembly.
While some Democrats had been turning to sites like eBay and Craigslist hoping to scoop up scalped tickets to see U.S. Sen. Barack ... >

Who Cares?
People will sign anything that they are asked too... All four are on the CD-6 Ballot.
Armstrong Record Breaking Event
that my point, coffman has had so many jobs of being incompetant that noboby knows what accomplishments he had made to make an impact on the state of colorado. You must be a coffman supporter with blinders on, how can you trust this guy. Sounds like envy because Coffman fell short in the petition drive compared to Armstrong's organization. Your point still has the stench of a weasal.
Armstrong
Again you go after Coffman with frivolous accusations. He served as Treasurer for 2 terms. How about talking about Wil and his qualifications... Oh wait he has followed his dad from job to job and his dad even bailed him out when his company went bankrupt. Im sure a mortgage lender has the best interets of cd-6 at heart... Keep up the good work.
Coffman
if you look at the history of coffman, he has built an outstanding resume, but where is the loyalty, he is not committed, his word is quicksand, he is always looking for the next political opportunity to say he is qualified because of that resume. With his incompentance he will put somebody under the bus who stand in his way to where he wants to go. It appears that he is looking out for Coffman and not the best interest of cd-6. I smell a weasel.
Armstrong Staffer
You should stay off this blog and do some real work. Since leaving the military Mike has dedicated his life to serving the GOP and our state. He has accomplished many things in the legislature, Treasurer's office and as Secretary of State. He saved a school district from financial ruin. In 06 he was the strongest GOP candidate we had. During Mike's service Armstrong was still destroying the housing market and helping many people loose their homes. Wil can't beat Mike on his merits so you all always resort to the Secretary of State vacancy. This kind of thing happens all the time. I didn't hear you crying when Beauprez gave up his seat. Now Perlmutter has more control and influence than Mike or anyone else who will ever be SOS. I think you enthusiasm is great. However you need to know what it is about and for. You remind me of an Obama supporter. You can't really say why you support Wil, you just do. Mike is a Patriot and Wil is a nice mortgage lender who is trying to ride his dad's coattails.
??
Since when has Mike EVER done anything for the GOP? He didn't stand down because he thought it was the right thing for the party!
Coffman didn't run for senate or governor because he may have lost. Bob Beauprez helped draw that congressional district for Mike Coffman and Coffman was the only man in the race as long as he wanted to be. When he saw how the party numbers in the district broke down he decided it may be too hard so he eventually declined. Beauprez took the Pepsi challenge and beat Feeley.
Then Coffman didn't run for Governor because he noticed that he had ZERO support from the GOP.
Now, when the GOP is indeed asking him to do something - honor his commitment to the party and the voters - he is bailing out.
Mike Coffman's legacy to the party will either be that he delivered a Dem SOS to them or that he transparently tried to bail on them but even failed at that so he can live out the remainder of his term in shame.
Mike's been
Putting the country and the Republican party ahead of himself for years. This can be demonstrated by his two leave of absences to serve our nation. Mike also put the party ahead of himself in 06. He wanted to run for governor but the party elite said he should back Beauprez. I think Mike would have beat Ritter but he did what the party wanted him to. He is the best and most qualified candidate for Congress. Your post is silly and inaccurate at best. Coffman will win in August.
450 Volunteers for Armstrong
Congradulations Wil, on breaking the all time record for signatures on a petition for a congressional race in the state of
Colorado. You are the MAN!!!
It is clear that Armstrong
It is clear that Armstrong has the ability to mobilize volunteers. Even using Stansbury's large number of 1500 paid signatures, that leaves 4,500 signatures collected by volunteers, which is the full amount needed to qualify more than the total number Mike turned in.
Coffman got beat up bad in terms of petitions, and I think the Coffman campaign needs to come clear on their paid signatures also.
Congratulations to Wil Armstrong and his campaign in setting a new signature record, and also in dealing a solid blow to the undeniable ego of a man who puts himself above the party, Mike Coffman.
Did he use paid circulators?

It's easy to claim a record
It's easy to claim a record when no one knows what the old one was. While an impressive #, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. Will will be 1 of 4 candidates on the Republican primary ballot. Congratulations on making the ballot Mr. Armstrong, but August is where it counts.
I think this is an
I think this is an impressive showing of grassroot support for Armstrong! Does anyone know what the previous record was? Or how many Tancredo got in his first run?
