Ken Salazar spokesman leaves for consulting firm

Cody Wertz, U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar's (D-Denver) longtime communcations director, will be leaving Friday for a private sector job, Salazar's Senate office announced Monday.

Wertz, who was one of the first people hired by Salazar after announcing in March 2004 that he would run for Senate, is taking a job with GBSM, Inc., a Denver-based management, strategic communications and public affairs consulting firm.

Wertz and his wife Mary Ann are also expecting their first child in September, a press release stated.

"I salute Cody Wertz for his stellar efforts as my Communications Director," Salazar said in the release. "Through his energy, insight and commitment, Cody has made a huge difference for the people of Colorado.  I consider him to be like a son, and I wish the very best for him and Mary Ann as he begins this new venture."

Salazar will announce a new communications director "in the coming days," the release stated.
