Crank nabs endorsement from National Association of Home Builders

Fifth Congressional District GOP candidate Jeff Crank was endorsed by the National Association of Home Builders on Monday - a possible sign that incumbent U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colorado Springs) is having fundraising troubles.

One Republican strategist told the newspaper Roll Call that the NAHB endorsement was "a really bad sign (for Lamborn) because it is just further proof that Lamborn has failed to connect with K Street, and his fundraising numbers are further proof of it."

Lamborn reported having about $180,000 cash-on-hand and about $60,000 of debt as of the end of the first quarter of 2008, Roll Call reported.

Another veteran D.C. operative told the newspaper that while the Crank endorsement was likely influenced by state politics, the fact that the NAHB went against an incumbent in a primary election was "a little bit of a big deal."

In a statement Monday, Crank said he was "honored to have the endorsement of this exceptional organization.

"The NAHB is the trade organization for one of the leading contributors of our local and national economy," Crank said in the statement.

Crank was endorsed by the Housing and Building Association of Colorado Springs in January.

Endorsement a Hoax

Press problems at Crank HQ. According to a retraction today in Roll Call, the endorsement was fabricated by Crank. http://www.rollcall.com/issues/53_155/atr/26076-1.html Interesting that Crank sent this out the same day he attacked General Rayburn's integrity.
