LEADVILLE – Campaigning over a cup of decaf at the Golden Burro restaurant in Leadville Monday, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer joined Colorado politicians of all stripes in denouncing a statement by presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain that the seven-state Colorado River Compact should be “renegotiated over time.”
“There’s no way I’m going to reopen the Colorado River Compact,” Schaffer said. “Opening up the Colorado River water compact is a non-starter for Coloradans. It is the only protection we have from the more politically powerful downstream states on the Colorado River.”
But, Schaffer added, “I’m convinced (McCain) intended to make general statements about further discussions on the Colorado River, not reopen the compact.”
Schaffer was visiting Leadville during a campaign swing through the central mountains Monday morning. In addition to water issues, Schaffer talked immigration, energy and forest management with local residents and press.
Speaking with a reporter from the Leadville Herald Democrat, Schaffer said misguided environmentalism is a primary cause of a significant bark beetle infestation that has killed off large stands of lodgepole pines in the Rocky Mountains.
“An infestation, such as we have today, is not a normal occurrence,” Schaffer said. “And it’s interesting, because the far left of the environmental movement will assert that it is a natural activity. But it isn’t. It is a function of national forests, public lands that are not managed properly; they’re not managed in the way to achieve an objective of forest health.”
As he spoke, Schaffer pulled out a small red book from his bag. The book, entitled “Use of National Forests,” was written in 1907 by Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the U.S. Forest Service. In the book Pinchot states the second goal of the Forest Service – after preventing forest fires – is that the forest “is used but not used up.”
“Hundreds of millions of feet of timber are sold from the forest each year,” Schaffer read from Pinchot’s book. “That is why the forest is protected. The timber is used.”
Schaffer was given the book while serving in Congress.“I carry this with me a lot because people forget,” he said. “The mission of the forest service has really gone by the wayside over the last 50 or 60 years.”
Asked about immigration, Schaffer advocated a “modern-day data processing system” to replace the paper-based processing system currently used by U.S. immigration authorities.
“Consider we’re living in a modern age trying to process 200,000 guests into the country every year for a variety of purposes,” Schaffer said. “And doing this with paper and pen – that is the source of frustration for so many people, and why after a couple years of frustration people (outside the U.S.) start considering, ‘All right, well, (the U.S.) is a robust economy. I’m sitting in Guatemala or whatever I happen to be and their corrupt government… maybe jumping the fence makes sense.’”
Schaffer advocated setting up government-contracted private-sector employment offices in other countries to “prequalify, preidentify foreign labor before they come to the United States.”
“We’re going to send American troops over to various countries around the world when there are severe breakdowns in diplomacy and human rights and so on,” Schaffer said. “It seems to me from a diplomatic standpoint it makes eminent sense to devote more resources up front when you get improved economic conditions in your own backyard – Mexico and Haiti.”

Bob Schaffer is correct
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer is correct in thinking, that illegal immigration is not just hurting a few states, but every state in the union.
These politicians, advocates, pundits, better realize that illegal immigration is not going to be an issue they can brush under the rug.
It's no longer Democrat versus Republican, or in this case Democrats are adverse to the original planned border fence and anything that has a sweet smell of rigid immigration enforcement. But I'm not even saying that the Democrats are the worst advocates of enforcing a laws, because many of the Republicans are pre-owned by the International Globalists.
Along with the Iraq War illegal immigration is costing American taxpayers at all different levels of government at least a trillion dollars each year.
Corrupt
Incumbents need to thrown out of office? All & every politician that doesn't sponsor the Federal SAVE ACT (H.R.4088) Any elected official (Hired-help) which includes Governors, Mayors, councilman, city managers who pander to the Special Interest lobby. They should be tarred and feathered if they are in collusion with foreign governments like Mexico.
If Americans don't fight back against the Globalist tyranny that will swamp us with cheap labor. The Democrats who have gutted the border fence funding, so we will be dealing with Overpopulation in just 20 years. The drugs, the escalating crime rate and the wilting nationwide economy. It's entirely up to 'THE PEOPLE' in the coming months. Both parties are going to land America with another AMNESTY.

Ask your State representative energy conservation? How much gas, oil and electricity we could save, if we sent illegal aliens home.
We cannot keep up the demand for it right now! Oil! Diversity Alliance for Sustainable America.(earthtimes) stated in it's article that if the U.S. grants amnesty and gives citizenship to 12 to 30 million illegal migrants already here, as McCain, Obama and the majority of Democrats propose. That all those naturalized citizens could possibly add 120 million U.S. and foreign-born relatives to the U.S., in the next 20 years whom all will CONSUME MAJOR ENERGY. Does the American people need to escalate the 315 million plus population, the census estimates we have now? To a new total of 435 million?
Massive negative consequences of illegal immigration on today's and yesterdays economy. Illegal Immigration is all enveloping our economy! Everything! Obama, McCain, Governors, Mayors, Councilors, City managers take notice! 80 percent of the American people are watching! How many more nefarious companies out their, violating safety and immigration laws. When ICE knocks on the door eventually--and they will, under the Federal SAVE ACT. Deportation is an absolute certainty. Whereas, voluntary 'ATTRITION' means you can re-apply like all the millions of legal immigrants.
Overpopulation, traffic congestion, urban sprawl, pollution, environmental damage, water, oil, gas, energy diminishing resources, contagious diseases, lack of affordable housing, depressed wages of US citizens, underground economic, fraudulent documents, identity theft, Sanctuary cities, predatory businesses tax evasion, soaring nationwide crime rate growth , increased taxpayer burdens, $$$ going across the border, overseas, overcrowded schools, uneducated legal children, overcrowded prisons, inadequate health care for legal residents, but free health care for illegal immigrants.
