Salazar says he hasn't been approached about cabinet post

U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Denver) told the Denver Post on Tuesday that he hasn't been contacted by President-elect Barack Obama's transition team about becoming Secretary of the Interior.

"I've had no conversations with the transition team about specific positions," Salazar told the Post.

Salazar declined to say if he would accept the cabinet post if asked.

"It's a very hypothetical question," he said to the Post. "I don't answer hypothetical questions."

However, he said Obama's new Interior Secretary should come from the Mountain West.

"The secretary of the Interior will only succeed if they understand the public lands issues of the West," Salazar said, according to the Post.
