Outgoing U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Loveland) might be going back to college after he leaves the Senate in January.
Allard is being considered as the next chancellor for the Colorado State University system, which includes campuses in Fort Collins and Pueblo, the Greeley Tribune is reporting.
The chancellor position opened up when Larry Penley resigned on Nov. 5.
Allard told the Tribune and the Denver Post that CSU is considering an administration reorganization in which a chancellor would oversee the entire CSU system, while presidents would be named to head each of the two campuses.
Allard said after hearing rumors that he was being considered for the chancellorship, he called Doug Jones, chairman of the board of governors of the CSU system.
"I would consider the position seriously if offered," Allard told the Tribune.
Allard earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine from CSU in 1968.
State Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Yuma), also a CSU graduate, told the Tribune he would support Allard being appointed chancellor.
"I heard Allard is being considered by the board as of (Monday). I think he would be an excellent choice. No one knows Colorado like Wayne, and no one knows CSU like Wayne and (his wife) Joan," Gardner told the Tribune.
