Senate GOP releases 2009 committee assignments

With the state Senate District 26 race decided, Senate Republicans released their 2009 committee assignments on Thursday.

Senate Democrats announced their committee assignments last week.

In some cases, though, there isn't a name to go with the assignment. Senate Minority Leader Josh Penry (R-Grand Junction) has assigned the yet-to-be-determined senator from the 15th Senate District to the Judiciary, Local Government, and Health and Human Services committees.

State Sen. Steve Johnson (R-Fort Collins) has said he'll resign the 15th Senate District seat around the end of the year to take a seat on the Larimer County Commission. A vacancy committee will have 30 days after his resignation to find a successor.

State Rep. Kevin Lundberg (R-Berthoud) and business owner Mike Lynch of Loveland have indicated interest in Johnson's seat.

Penry had held off on announcing GOP Senate committee assignments until a winner was declared in the  state Senate District 26 race. Wednesday night, Republican Lauri Clapp of Centennial conceded that race to Democrat Linda Newell of Littleton.
