In robocall, Musgrave blames her loss on 'leftist special interests'

Outgoing U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-Fort Morgan) is finally speaking out about her re-election loss -- in a robocall to Georgia residents on behalf of U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia).

In the call, sent to 275,000 Georgia voters Monday and Tuesday, Musgrave blamed her loss on "leftist special interests" who "smothered the truth with vicious attacks and lies," the Fort Collins Coloradoan reported.

During the campaign, Musgrave lashed out at independent groups who opposed her - most notably the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, a pro-environmental group that spent about $3.5 million this election cycle against Musgrave.

The robocall was paid for by the Susan B. Anthony List, a 501(c)4 group that seeks to elect pro-life candidates, according to the Coloradoan. The Coloradoan put up an online audio file of the robocall.

Since Musgrave lost to U.S. Rep.-elect Betsy Markey (D-Fort Collins) last month, she hasn't called to concede. Two weeks after the election, she hadn't even thanked her campaign staff, Politico reported.

Chambliss faces Democrat Jim Martin in a U.S. Senate runoff election Tuesday.

The full script of the robocall:

"Hello, I'm Marilyn Musgrave. Until last month I was the congresswoman from Colorado.

"Leftist special interests from around the country poured money into my district to defeat me. They overwhelmed us with money. And they smothered the truth with vicious attacks and lies.

"We are seeing the same pattern in Georgia. Pro-abortion radicals and liberal activists won't stop until they have a chokehold on our government. You can stop them with your vote. It's too late to change the results in Colorado, but on Tuesday you can cast your vote for Saxby Chambliss."
