A new ad thanking Bob Schaffer for observing his term limits pledge as a Congressman is making the rounds on TV and on state political blogs over the past few days.
The ad, paid for by U.S. Term Limits, a national pro-term-limits organization, features children and parents saying "Thanks Bob" for his role in creating the Colorado Charter School Act.
The ad itself appears to be a "thank you" for Schaffer's decision to abide by a pledge he signed holding him to three House terms. Schaffer upheld his pledge, leaving office in 2003 despite pressure from President Bush.
Udall spokesperson Taylor West responded to the ad by saying, “It isn't his odd history with term limits that makes Bob Schaffer wrong for Colorado. It's the fact that, while in Congress and since he left, there were no limits on Schaffer's ties to oil and gas special interests.
"Given Schaffer's extraordinary ties to the oil industry, it would be a huge mistake sending Schaffer back to Washington for another round while gas is creeping toward four-dollars-per-gallon and oil is priced at over $100-a-barrel," West said.
