A vacancy commitee on Sunday picked State Board of Education member Karen Middleton to finish former state Rep. Michael Garcia's term in the 42nd House District, according to the Aurora Sentinel.
Middleton beat out 2007 Aurora School Board candidate Carlos Estrada for the seat, which was vacated by Garcia Feb. 1 following allegations he exposed himself to a female lobbyist in a downtown Denver bar.
Middleton said she will resign from her SBOE seat Feb. 13 and be sworn in to the House the same day, the Sentinel reported.
Even before the vacancy opened up, Middleton had already been running to succeed the term-limited Garcia in the 42nd District in the November elections.
She was elected to the SBOE in 2006 to serve the remainder of Christine Baca's term through January 2009, the Sentinel reported.
