Paschall's defense a joke

Today the Rocky treated us to former Jefferson County treasurer Mark Paschall’s side of the story in his trial for attempted theft. Paschal has been accused by long-time acquaintance and sometime administrative aide, Kathy Redmond of offering to give her a sizable bonus if she would split a portion of it with him.

Yesterday Paschall’s defense attorney David Lane attempted to undermine the case by saying it was a just a joke that went bad says the Rocky.

Paschall the Rascal’s attorney doesn’t deny that he made the offer to split county bonus money with single mother, Kathy Redmond, who then worked for Paschall as an administrative assistant.

Nope.

Instead Paschall’s lawyer says he was just kidding when he made the offer.

Ha, ha and ha.

It’s especially funny because sources are telling Inside Edge that this isn’t the first time Paschall has been involved in financial cookery. It’s just the first time he got caught with the baking sheet still hot.

In the summer of 2006, says a source with personal knowledge of the matter, Paschall called a number of supporters and asked them to make large, undocumented loans to his campaign in order to “scare off any potential rivals” for the treasurer’s race in Jefferson County.

The scheme involved depositing large donations (in excess of $5,000) into Paschall’s campaign account which would then sit there unspent until after the election and then, Paschall promised, he would pay the contributors back.

Paschall emphasized that the loans given to the campaign had to be undocumented, but that of course he would pay the money back after the campaign.

To which we say: ha, ha and ha.

Paschall probably would have said that he had his fingers crossed the whole time the first time he was asked for the money back.

Inside Edge is assuming that none of his supporters where dumb enough to actually take him up on the offer. But then again we’re talking Paschall supporters here. Maybe a look-see into Paschall’s campaign finances is in order.

Sources have also alleged that Paschall once solicited “donations” from long-time supporters for his son to attend some type of sports camp. The source said that they thought it was a hockey camp, but the source wasn’t 100% sure.

Based on this info, Paschall should be stocking up on plenty of soap on the rope and be prepared to make a deal with prosecutors should they present one.

Because we get the feeling that the Inside Edge hasn’t heard the last of this. People love the retelling of an accident they’ve just witnessed.

And that’s no joke.
