Polis responds to FEC complaint with disclosure

Responding to an FEC complaint filed by primary opponent Will Shafroth this week, CD-2 Democratic candidate Jared Polis’ campaign released statistics detailing more than $21,000 in campaign “labor costs” in the last half of 2007.

Polis paid for the costs by making in-kind contributions of $11,000 in 3Q 2007 and $10,000 during 4Q 2007, the statistics show. In his complaint letter, Shafroth criticized Polis for not specifying what he meant by “labor costs.”

The statistics, released this week, show during the last half of 2007, $5,559.88 was spent on technical support for the campaign, $1,812.12 was spent to hire a driver to transport Polis, $1,172.24 was directed towards admin/tech support (which mostly consisted of scheduling a Polis spokesperson said) and $2,044.50 was expended on “policy support.”

An addition $10,453.58 was spent on management to oversee those tasks.

The costs were not covered by Polis himself, but rather by his private company, Jovian P4 LLC. All the above expenditures went to Jovian employees hired for the tasks, Polis spokesperson Dayna Hanson said.
