Benson Becomes New CU President

Bruce Benson, a millionaire Republican activist with a huge Rolodex for fundraising but a controversial political past, was named the twenty-second president of the University of Colorado on Wednesday night.

The University of Colorado Board of Regents approved Benson, the only finalist for the presidency, by a 6-3 party-line vote, the Rocky Mountain News is reporting.

Fitz-Gerald Opposition To Benson As CU President Stems From '03 Redistricting Fight

CD-2 Democratic candidate Joan Fitz-Gerald opposes Bruce Benson becoming the next president of the University of Colorado because of his "involvement in questionable political activities," her campaign manager said Wednesday.

Fitz-Gerald especially disapproved of Benson's role in the 2003 legislative redistricting battle, said manager Matt Moseley.
