Gallegos misses petition deadline; Vigil turns in signatures

GallegosGallegosState Rep. Rafael Gallegos (D-Antonio) won't be on the August primary ballot for House District 62, as he missed the Thursday deadline to turn in petition signatures to the Colorado Secretary of State's office.

"Not enough time, not enough signatures," Gallegos explained to PolitickerCO late Thursday.

HD-62 Democratic candidate Ed Vigil, a Costilla County commissioner, did turn in petition signatures on Wednesday, according to a Secretary of State spokesperson. If his signatures are verified, Vigil will face Rocky White in the August Democratic primary.

Gallegos fails to make ballot in HD-62 assembly upset

GallegosGallegosIn a surprising upset, state Rep. Rafael Gallegos (D-Antonio) fell three votes short of making the August primary ballot during the HD-62 Democratic assembly Friday in Colorado Springs.

Rocky White, an Alamosa doctor who has been a leading advocate of a single-payer health care plan, walloped both Gallegos and Ed Vigil in the assembly vote, capturing 32 of the 58 assembly votes. Gallegos won 14 votes; Vigil received 12.

White said the vote was "kind of a surprise."

" I certainly did not expect that to happen," White said.
