Senate Dems name 2009 committee chairs

The Colorado Senate Democrats announced chair assignments for 10 state Senate committees on Thursday and seven of the 10 appointed Senators are new to the post.

State Sens. Jim Isgar (D-Durango), Paula Sandoval (D-Denver), and Jennifer Veiga (D-Denver) are the only committee chairs who will remain in their positions for next year.

Rollie's gravitas

Six years after losing a race for Governor, the venerable Rollie Heath is headed to public office.  The 70-year-old retired Boulder businessman scored a 56%-44% victory over Cindy Carlisle to win the Democratic nomination for State Senate.  There is no Republican candidate for the seat being vacated by term-limited state Sen. Ron Tupa.

2008 primary preview: State Senate races

There are four competitive state Senate primaries that will be decided during Tuesday's primaries -- all are for open seats.

Can Mark Scheffel hold off Bob Denny in the 4th state Senate District GOP race? The 18th Senate District Democratic race between Cindy Carlisle and Rollie Heath seems to be going down to the wire. Jerry Call and Lauri Clapp are butting heads in the 24th state Senate District GOP race. And some think Joyce Foster is poised to win the 35th state Senate District Democratic nomination, though others don't count out Alice Borodkin.
