Lamborn to petition on CD-5 primary ballot

U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colorado Springs) will petition onto the CD-5 primary ballot -- a move that is very unusual for an incumbent Congressman in Colorado to make.

In an e-mail sent to supporters Tuesday, Lamborn cited his Congressional voting schedule and claiming the El Paso County GOP wasn't able to adequately monitor and track delegate information.

Schaffer's pro-life stance questioned by anti-abortion group

U.S. Senate candidate Bob SchafferU.S. Senate candidate Bob SchafferA national pro-life group is questioning Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer's anti-abortion stance following his refusal to meet with the group and a claim that he ignored evidence of forced abortions during his 1999 trip to the Northern Marianas islands, the Rocky Mountain News is reporting.

The pro-life group, American Right To Life, wants to ask Schaffer why he hasn't yet endorsed a proposed ballot measure that would define a human embryo as a person. The group also wants to know why Schaffer supports most-favored-nation status with China despite reports of forced abortions in China and involving Chinese workers in the Marianas, the paper reported.

Bruce calls Mexican workers 'illiterate peasants'

State Rep. Douglas BruceState Rep. Douglas BruceState Rep. Douglas Bruce (R-Colorado Springs) found himself in controversy yet again Monday when he was removed from the state House podium after calling Mexican workers "illiterate peasants," the Associated Press reported.

Bruce made the comment while speaking before the state House about HB 1325, which would allow Colorado to help up to 1,000 seasonal workers in Mexico get temporary federal work visas.

"I would like to have the opportunity to state at the microphone why I don't think we need 5,000 more illiterate peasants in Colorado," Bruce said, according to the AP.
