Gramm, potential VP picks join McCain in Aspen

John McCain visited Aspen Thursday to raise money, talk economics, and plan fundraising strategy.

And he wasn’t alone: joining him in the mountain resort town were ousted McCain economic adviser Phil Gramm, as well as potential McCain vice-presidential picks South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, and U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), according to the Wall Street Journal and the Aspen Daily News.

McCain met with the potential VP picks behind closed doors Thursday, according to News2. Gramm was seated in the front row Thursday afternoon as McCain spoke about the world economy at the Aspen Institute.

Friday morning, McCain will attend a fundraising strategy session with more than 100 top fundraisers and supporters.

Campaign executives Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt, senior adviser Charlie Black and McCain literary collaborator Mark Salter will be among those attending the session, the Aspen Daily News reported.
