"How much of Jared Polis' "dirty" oil money went to fund the left wing extremist organization Progress Now? It would be interesting to know. Progress Now is now trying to bash Bob Schaffer for his alleged ties to big oil."- Posted by Irony & Hypocrisy in response to our piece titled "Polis held stock in oil, gas, pharmaceutical companies"

Dear I&H-

We've sent off an email to Progress Now to ask them that very question. We have yet to hear back from them. I'm sure they are just busy looking for the spreadsheet titled "Dirty Oil Money Contributions and Offsetting Starbucks Expenses that go to Support Less-Developed South American Peasants." Once they find it, we're sure they'll be in touch.

And as soon as we have an answer from them, we'll get back to you.

You could help us however, if you could get your "big oil" masters to bring gas prices down to $2.25-$2.50 a gallon for the summer driving season. Let them know that by doing so, they'll get a favorable mention in this space. Since they're buying politicians on both the left and the right, we just want them to know that Wally can be bought too.

"Was the reporter in attendance at the debate? I came away with a different impression entirely."- Posted by Republican Mom in response to our piece titled "Grading the 6th CD debate"

Dear Mom-

I told you to stop writing me here, especially if you are going to nag me. I'll clean up my room tonight when I get home. Please feed the cat. And no, I won't take the Obama poster down.

Yes of course we were at the event.

To help form our opinions on who won and lost the debate, we actually appointed a panel of debate judges using scientific criteria that consisted of: 1) being available; and 2) correctly answering the question "What'd you think of the debate?"

Of course you can see how in that case we'd come to very different conclusions than you. We based our opinions on exacting scientific inquiry and you based your opinion on what you thought.

Big difference.

"I find it interesting that everyone who has something negative to add is unnamed in your piece....If someone is pro-life why wouldn't they support the personhood petition?"- Posted by Lolita in response to our piece titled "Someone's pulling Curtis' string on abortion"

Dear Lolita-

We find it interesting that everyone who attacks us generally does so by quibbling about unnamed sources rather than effectively attacking our facts. Nowhere did you say our facts are wrong.

Still, perhaps we were wrong about Denver Bible Church. Maybe it isn't a diabolical cult lead by a guy who wants to overthrow the US Constitution. Maybe you guys are just learning impaired. We suggest the next time you have a prayer meeting disguised as a Colorado Right to Life board meeting that you work on your reading comprehension skills, because all of your comments are irrelevant to the article we wrote about the Bob Enyart-Steve Curtis connection. And in answer to most of those comments we say politely: we don't care. We don't write about policy, we write about politics.

Here's a quick civics lesson.

When you want politicians to support your cause, you probably shouldn't pick as your leader a guy who advocates overthrowing the Constitution of the United States and having himself appointed as king. Most politicians at one time or another have sworn to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. That document disallows kings. We even fought a big war about it. David McCullough and a few others wrote some books about that war.

Maybe if you read them you'll see why politicians with any sense don't want to talk to you.

Then again, maybe not.

"Since you guys are Johnny-come-latelies to the Colorado political scene you seem to have missed the fact that Schaffer is the very definition of an extremist on the conservative side."- Posted by Factuality in response to our piece titled "Someone's pulling Curtis' string on abortion"

Dear Factuality-

That may be true, but we think Schaffer has shown good sense in not associating with the Denver Monarchist Party lead by Enyart and his vice regent, Steve Curtis. They just use the pro-life movement as a cover for their activities.

Our sources tell us that certain members of the GOP, including RNC committeewoman, Lilly Nunez, have provided Curtis and Enyart material support. One source told us, in response to our column on the subject, that Lilly's husband Joe, a Bush Administration appointee, is hawking tickets to some Curtis-sponsored event where they are presenting Enyart with an award for "Excellence." Another has told us that Lilly has supported the Curtis-Enyart axis with vocal support in the background. Lilly herself refused to comment to us when we called her a few days ago asking her about the controversy. After a terse, "no comment" she hung up on us.

So, of course, I understand your concern about PolitickerCO be so new to the Colorado scene that we don't understand what is really going on.

We'll try harder.

Thanks for reading. Have a great weekend. We'll see you on Monday!

Lilly Nuñez is the Treasurer of one of Bob Schaffer's joint fundraising committees, the Schaffer Victory Fund. Look it up.

There's no source quite like the public record.
