10) HB08-1004
Enforcement Of School Attendance Laws
Sponsors: TODD--PENRY
Status: Killed in Committee
The View from Wally's World: Maybe kids who don't want to learn and parents that don't want to send their kids to school should be allowed to skip out so students that want to learn can do so without distraction.
9) HB08-1033
Historic Preservation Income Tax Credit
Sponsors: LEVY-SANDOVAL
Status: Passed House and Senate
The View from Wally's World: While we congratulate the legislature for funding a government mandate, this strikes as a "make work" provision of government. We're all for historic preservation, but ought government mandate it and then make the rest of us pay for it?
8) SB08-048
Regulate Political Telephone Solicitations
Sponsors: KELLER-BUESCHER
Status: Killed in Committee
The View from Wally's World: Hey we're a site that caters to folks who make their living, one way or another, on political solicitations. And it strikes us that every time the government tells campaigns what politickers can or can't do, we end up in a bigger mess than before.
7) HB08-1015
Authorize Local Government Marketing Activity
Sponsors: MAROSTICA-JOHNSON
Status: Killed in Committee
The View from Wally's World: Is it just us, or does anyone else have a problem with cities and counties not being able to market themselves without special permission from the state legislature?
6) HB08-1027
School College Construction Inspection
Sponsors: MITCHELL V.-TAYLOR
Status: Awaiting Action in the House, Passed in the Senate
The View from Wally's World: Why do we need special building inspections for public schools and junior colleges? Aren't normal building codes and inspection regimens enough? Another "make work" provision of government.
5) HB08-1025
Governor's Energy Office
Sponsors: WEISSMANN-TUPA
Status: Signed by Governor
The View from Wally's World: For 30 years governments, state and federal, have been working on energy policy. Like what they've done so far? Good ‘cause now the state of Colorado has a whole department, along with a budget, to devote to screwing it up even more.
4) HB08-1042
Animal Massage Therapy Exemption
Sponsors: MCKINLEY-BROPHY
Status: Signed by Governor
The View from Wally's World: The all-powerful Animal Massage Therapy lobby strikes again to circumvent licensing requirements. Next to big oil, they are the worst! Horses of the world, Unite! You have nothing to break but the laws!
3) HB08-1023
Possession Of Graffiti Tools
Sponsors: KERR J.-BOYD
Status: Killed in Committee
The View from Wally's World: Let's face facts here, there are some legislators that should get less than three bills per session if this is the best they can come up with.
2) HB08-1048
Size Of The State Seal
Sponsors: ROSE-CADMAN
Status: Signed byGovernor
The View from Wally's World: Gives SoS, Mike Coffman, the ability to determine the size of the state seal. Finally, someone has authority to deal with this pressing problem. And they picked the right guy too. He won't be criticized.
1) HB08-1017
Western Painted Turtle State Reptile
Sponsors: PENISTON-VEIGA
Status: Signed by Governor
The View from Wally's World: Personally, we were in favor of the Lesser Earless Lizard as the official reptile of Colorado. But the Western Turtle people hired lobbyists from the Animal Massage Therapy PAC and beat out the Earless Lizard. Maybe not having ears and consequently not being able to hear contributed to the lizard's defeat.
