How the West was won by the Democrats

The Washington Times today has a nicely done piece on how the West has gone to the Democrats.

"They tend to be independent," says Denver pollster Floyd Ciruli about Rocky Mountain voters in the Times article, "and if you have a reasonably attractive candidate and a national trend for the Democrats, there's no reason you can't elect Democrats."

"If you look at Montana and the Democratic strategy in general, they're going out of their way to nominate very marginal Democrats in terms of ideology," Ciruli continues. "These Democrats are comfortable with guns and shaking their fist at the Washington establishment."
