Might Udall introduce Obama in Denver?

Rumors are circulating that U.S. Rep. Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) will introduce U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) before his acceptance speech Thursday night at Invesco Field.

It might make sense to showcase the Senate candidate in the home state of the convention who happens to be in the biggest race in the mountain west. Another connection? The Udall's are also friends with U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

It's highly unlikely that he wouldn't have any role at the convention, yet so far Udall is conspicuously missing from the convention schedule. Thursday's schedule is the one that still needs the most fleshing out.

On the other hand, there are some down sides to having Udall make the introduction. He's a regional pick in a national speaking slot and few outside the state know who he is. Then again, almost nobody knew who Obama was before his now famous speech in 2004.
