The Inside Edge gets mail from various sources. Some of it comes to the inbox. Some of it comes to the mailbox. And we get mail from Republicans, Democrats, Greenies, Libertarians, Ron Paul people, etc.
Normally we only scan these types of mailings, but every once in awhile we get something so bad, it merits comment.
On Friday we got mail from 6th CD candidate Steve Ward forwarded from the original addressee.
Sorry Steve, but your table is now ready.
“Dear XXXX,” the letter starts.
“These are uncertain times. You have a significant role in helping shape the future of our country.
“Sitting in a chow hall in Baghdad last Thanksgiving, we struck up a conversation with a young Marine Captain. After listening for a time, he shared that his wife had given birth to their first child, a son, just a few days earlier. There are many costs to the wars we are fighting. I have served in both Iraq and Afghanistan and have seen this first hand.” [Original emphasis]
The letter continues in this meandering and disconnected fashion to talk about the Ural Mountains, Moscow, Chechen terrorist, energy policy, economic stimulus, the State Department, 2nd amendment rights, eminent domain, never once completing a full thought in about 600 words.
His main points seem to be: 1) he’s been to Iraq and Afghanistan and 2) he’s been some other places too, and 3) did he tell you he’s been to Iraq and Afghanistan?
Then for good measure Ward includes an email exchange he has with someone who called him a “moron” for appearing with Rep. Joe Rice, a Democrat, to talk about his Iraq War experiences. I’m sure getting called a “moron” via email is a daily experience for a legislator. Or for a political journalist. Or someone on Match.com. Or for someone connected to the internet. It hardly merits attention.
We at the Inside Edge only mention all this, not to embarrass Ward, but to point out that he’s not a serious candidate. He’s always only been “that other guy that’s running, what-his-name.”
The proof is that while other candidates have professionals writing their campaign literature and handling their mailings, Ward is apparently writing his own literature.
If that’s the case, he should get serious about running a campaign, find some professional campaign help quick or he should get out of the campaign altogether.
